Me trying to crack sandstone |
On Thursday we are on our first geology trip to a fossil infested place called Hurupi stream and then we are going on a very cool hike up the Pinnacles. There was a scene from lord of the rings filmed there. We have gotten some gear for our fossil hunting like/goggles/picks/hammers and chisels. We have been learning about three types of rocks. Igneous based with lava magma and stuff. Sedimentary which is like sandstone and limestone allot harder to crack open than you think. Third type is Metamorphic is when one rock basically morphs into another turns into crystals because it is squished between plates.
Here are some pictures of my garden.
Oh one last thing in march I will be going to the south island with my BEST BUDDIE EVER: BAS. We are both so excited about this and when i come back i will upload a whole bunch of photos of me and him having fun down at the south island. we are going to be swimming in the ocean and stuff most of all its GOING TO BE... A BLAST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is a cool video about a young guy who saved a whale
Have a good week people, The O
does your geologist kit come with boots!?! Chisels and bare feet look like they do not meet the NZ Safety Code!
ReplyDeleteNZ geologists are so much tougher than Canadian ones... we rock. Minus the odd toe or finger. Big trip tomorrow tramping and chipping and lugging rocks. Love the poll and hope I actually find that emerald without too much trouble.
ReplyDeleteSorry Theo can't enter a vote on the home computer. Do it tomorrow at work when the boss isn't looking!! My vote is for rare fossil by the way. You and Mum have fun tomorrow - don't get lost! Or captured by orcs - I don't want to have to start another quest so soon after the last one finished. Dad.
