UPDATES from the Cave

I decided on one really cold day that we would have a Reading Day. We loaded up with library books, got some hot chocolate and curled up beside the fire and read ALL DAY! I read about physics, ancient Rome, the Hindenberg disaster , distant future of London in a novel called Six Days. We are going to have Reading Days more often this was AWESOME!!!

Airship Update: We have named the airship .....(drum roll please....) It is now officially called: THE FLYING FOX! This week we got the propeller mounted and yes it really works and spins around. We also have been working on the lifeboat-that's a bit of a surprise which we will post a picture of when we are done. Next step is the dirigible- that's been the hardest part but we're on the right track now! Watch this space.

Physics: I made a solar powered helicopter and next I am making a solar powered digger with this cool kit I got for Xmas from Auntie Irene. But when I was looking at YouTube videos about physics - thank you to Stephen for his link to freezing by boiling water- I found these guys. THE SLO MO GUYS from England. They do funny experiments and video them in slo mo and they are so funny. Here is the link for a slo mo soccer ball to the face: THE SLO MO GUYS football to the head

Reviews: We are on to the third Barnaby Grimes books. I think that these books are fantastic and spectacular and gross books! With humour! Very important! and I wish I was a tick tock lad and was high stacking around London in the 1800's. I think me and my friend Bas would be great at this! The books are always about a mystery and Barnaby Grimes has to get in the middle and solve it. He is street smart and spends time at the Under hill Library for Scholars of the Arcane. I rate them 4.5 stars out of 5 mostly because extremely funny and descriptive so you feel like you are there in the fish stew fog.

I also saw The Hunger Games movie. I haven't read the books but I thought the movie was quite good. It is a really interesting idea for a story but it was also quite gruesome. I mean kids hacking each other down at the start and everyone watching it on TV was pretty nasty. I rate this 3.5 out of 5. You will want to take up archery after you see this.

So that's this week. It's Matariki in NZ , which is the stars that rise when it is the shortest days of the year. Toodles The-O
